How to Prepare for your Boudoir Shoot

Ok, now that you’ve booked your boudoir shoot, what do I have to do to prepare for my boudoir session? Every woman asks that, and it can be kind of nerve racking. There are tons of nerves and emotions leading up to a boudoir shoot, and that’s ok! I’m here to help! I wanted to write down some guidelines and suggestions to ease and organize your minds and prepare you for this awesome experience!

Tip 1: LOVE YOUR LOCKS

Schedule an appointment with your salon if you need to touch up your roots, freshen up your color, get a hair treatment to smooth out your locks, or get a trim to get rid of split ends.

Tip 2: BEAUTIFUL SKIN

Gently exfoliate your skin and face a day or two before your shoot. Drinking lots of water, moisturizing, and eating healthy, nutritous meals will give your skin a healthy glow.

Don’t worry about bruises, stretch marks, scars, or cellulite. We do skin smoothing in post processing to give your skin a beautiful, even glow. But prepping the “canvas” definitely helps!

Come with a clean & moisturized face!

Tip 3: SHAVE, WAX & EYEBROWS

Shave, wax, or trim any unwanted hair before your shoot. Make sure you do so with plenty of time for any redness to calm down.

Wax, trim, or thread your eyebrows. They make the face so make sure they are they way you love them.

Tip 4: TANNING

Tanning is great for a bronzey glow, but we don’t recommend it unless . . . .You prefer yourself with a tan. OR You have harsh tan lines from being out in the sun. If either of the above apply to you, we recommend tanning beds to even out tan lines or get a bronzey glow.

We DO NOT RECOMMEND . . . . Self Tanners, Harsh Tan Lines, Or Spray Tans

Tip 5: MANICURE & PEDICURE

Get a Manicure & Pedicure a day or two before your shoot. Pick a color that will go well with all your outfits or go with a french tip or neutral color. A white french tip lends to a classic look, whereas a black french tip adds a bit of modern sass!

Tip 6: CHOOSING OUTFITS

Choosing outfits is very important for your Boudoir Shoot. Your outfits will determine the style of your shoot. I will go over different styles next so you can see which styles you like! Always pick styles/outfits that reflect YOU! If lingerie isn’t you, maybe “girl next door” is more your style. But of course you can mix and match styles too! Our base session includes 4 outfit changes.

Always make sure you pick outfits that flatter your body type! Corsets or off the shoulder sweaters are fantastic for women who aren’t comfortable with their stomach area. Thigh High Stockings and Stilettos are great for those who want to slim their legs. If your bum is an area you aren’t comfortable with, you may lean towards covering it up! This is actually the opposite of what you want! Cute cheeky panties actually make a bum look much better than covering it up!

Make sure to try on all your outfits before your shoot to make sure they fit properly!

Tip 7: ACCESSORIES

Accessories should be something that is special to you or represents your personality. They can add a lot to your shoot but they need to mean something to you! Pearls, Hats, Jewelry, Men's Tie & Mask are all popular.

Tip 8: PINTEREST

Pinterest is a great tool in preparing for your shoot. Create a secret pinterest board and pin poses, outfits, and hair and makeup ideas that you like. Share your board with your photographer. They, most likely, already know the most flattering poses for you, but it will give them an idea of the style you like, It will also help YOU figure out what styles you are drawn to and what outfits you like!

Tip 9: DO'S & DON'TS

  • Do Eat Before Your Shoot.

  • Do Bring Things That Represent YOU!

  • Do Try Everything On Before Your Shoot

  • Do Cut Out Any Tags That Might Show.

  • Do Practice Your Sexy Faces.

  • Do Clean Your Jewelry.

  • DON'T Starve Yourself.DON'T Stress.

  • DON'T Forget All Your Outfits & Accessories.

  • DON'T Worry About Stretch Marks, Bruises, Scars, or Cellulite.

Tip 10: ASK QUESTIONS

Confused about something? Not sure if you should bring a certain outfit? Questions about colors or styles? Just ASK!! I am here for you every step of the way. Anytime you have questions, please ask. I will give you an honest & professional answer.
